The C4D Regional Community of Practice was born in Colombia in 2023 as a strategy of the USDA Food for Progress Colombia – Cacao and Complementary Crops for Development (C4D) Project, implemented by Partners of the Americas. The C4D Community of Practice offers a platform for all stakeholders in the cacao and complementary crops value chains of Colombia and Latin America, to coordinate actions and investments.
Our focus is to foster collaboration, share best practices, and coordinate investments through the exchange of information and knowledge, the organization of annual summits, and the pooling of resources to support strategic initiatives to boost the regional cocoa sector. Our activities aim to increase market potential, validate technologies, and support rural communities in achieving a dignified income.
Our vision for the C4D Community of Practice extends beyond the USDA Food for Progress C4D Project´s duration, aiming to continue the path of sustainable growth in the sector driven by our members.
Join us in shaping a more collaborative, innovative and sustainable future for the regional cacao industry!
The USDA Food for Progress program, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at strengthening Colombia’s rural economy while solidifying trade ties with the United States. With an investment of USD 25 million, this program represents the largest single USDA investment in Colombian agriculture, highlighting its strategic importance for both nations.
The project’s primary objective is to increase cacao production, establishing Colombia as a strategic supplier of raw materials for the U.S. food industries.
By training cacao producer organizations, providing rural extension services, creating innovative financial vehicles and supporting a new generation of young farmers, we strengthen agricultural value chains and enhance economic resilience.
By fostering prosperity in rural communities, we help deter irregular migration, lowering border security costs and promoting regional stability—critical factors in managing geopolitical and business risks for the U.S.
These efforts mitigate supply chain risks, reduce economic migration pressures, and contribute to a more stable labor market.
